5 Fun Winter Destinations

Still trying to decide where to get away this Winter? Here are Five Awesome Destinations ideas that will give you something to look forward to this season!

Winter Wonderland:

1. Vail, Colorado

Surrounded by snow and Christmas lights, it's a classic winter getaway!  Vail is a great resort, with one of the largest ski areas in the country (5,289 skiable acres to be exact)!  The village is huge so you've got plenty of dining and shopping options!  The ski school is excellent (amateur skier here), and there are lots of well groomed green runs (a.k.a. bunny slopes) if you're a beginner like me!  Starting in January, Delta actually flies into Eagle, CO for most of the ski season!  This way you don't drive through some treacherous conditions!  More info about Vail.

2. Lake Tahoe

The Resort at Squaw Creek is lovely!   Imagine the Lake surrounded by snow covered mountains!  Info about the resorts at Lake Tahoe

Even if you're not a Skier, there's a lot to enjoy at some great ski resorts! Spa, shopping and you can still enjoy the snow with a little tubing, snow shoeing or riding on a snow mobile!

Tropical Escape:

3. Hawaii

If Snow and frigid temperatures sound like your worst nightmare,  a Hawaiian getaway might be more your style!  You can enjoy Whale watching, surfing tournaments and delightful temperatures!  Here's a guide to the surf tournaments on Oahu's North Shore.  And a guide to all the surfing tournaments!

Here's a tip: To avoid rain stay on the South or Western parts of the islands.  In my experience, Kauai gets the most rain (but it's still my favorite)  Maui doesn't get as much rain as some of the other islands!  Here's an article with more details!  Check out my islands guides: Kauai and Maui

Winter Romance:

4. Paris, France

Fall in love with Paris.  Christmas, New Years, or really all winter long!  It's a magical city any time, but imagine the City of Lights lit up for Christmas!  January is also a great time to visit because the crowds have gone and you can really enjoy the city's sights.  There's likely to be less tourists and more locals! Sweet!

A Classic Christmas:

5. New York City:

The city that never sleeps is even more energized at Christmas time!  You can have your fill of Broadway shows,  Christmas markets, lights shows and shopping till you (almost) drop all the way through Manhattan!  Check out the Christmas Market at Bryant Park!
